Manchester United appealed against the red card which the midfield Bruno was shown on Sunday 29 September at Old Trafford at the end of the first half during a Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspurs.
Bruno received a straight red card for a foul after a challenge on Spurs attacking midfielder James Maddison, Bruno appeared to have slipped during the tackles due to drizzling weather but that was not the case by the on-field referee Chris Kavanagh and VAR approved the red card shown. The Football Association (FA) on Tuesday 1st October overturned the red card and the Manchester United captain will now be available to play the three matches he was set to miss, Bruno was set to miss matches against Aston Villa, Brentford and West Ham in the Premier League.
The host Manchester United were trailing by a goal before Bruno was sent off, later Tottenham added two more goals in the second half where Manchester United conceded a 3-0 defeat. Erik Ten Hang boys have already lost three matches in their opening six games played in the Premier League.
After the red card was shown, Maddison was whispering to Bruno’s ears and it was revealed that he said “It is a clear foul, but never a red card.” Bruno also spoke on the incident after the match and said “It was never a red card that is my view. The referee said it was a clear contact with the studs, but no. I did not touch him with my stud or even my foot it was my ankle.”
This is the first time the Portugal midfielder has been shown a straight red card in his Manchester United career.
